Donald Trump revealed to a veteran journalist that he systematically demeans the media so as to reduce the public’s trust in the fourth estate and blunt the impact of negative reporting on him.

Yesterday, before the annual dinner of the Deadline Club (which is the New York chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists) Leslie Stahl of CBS News said that Trump explained why he relentless attacks the media. According to Stahl, Trump said:

“You know why I do it? I do it to discredit you all and demean you all, so when you write negative stories about me no one will believe you.”

For Stahl’s full comments, watch the video above.
