The official state funeral for the late President Jimmy Carter is being held this morning at the National Cathedral in Washington, DC.
Carter, who served as the 39th president of the United States, passed away on December 29 at the age of 100.
President Joe Biden has declared today a national day of mourning for the late president. Federal offices, the postal service, and stock exchanges are closed in honor of Carter.
In accordance with Carter’s wishes, Biden will eulogize his predecessor. President-elect Donald Trump, along with former presidents Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, and Barack Obama, will also attend the service, in line with tradition.
Carter’s body has lain in state at the U.S. Capitol since Tuesday.

The service for Carter will begin at 10:00 AM Eastern.
It will bring together tributes from family members, friends, political partners, and musical performances to honor the life and legacy of the 39th president of the United States.
Carter will be eulogized by his grandson, Jason Carter, former White House Domestic Affairs Advisor Stuart Eizenstat, and President Joe Biden.
Steven Ford, son of President Gerald Ford, and Ted Mondale, son of Vice President Walter Mondale, will deliver reflections written by their deceased fathers.
Carter’s grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Musical tributes will feature the United States Marine Chamber Orchestra, the Armed Forces Chorus, and the United States Coast Guard Band, alongside performances by Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood, who will sing John Lennon’s “Imagine.”

After the state funeral, Carter will return to his humble roots to be laid to rest.
Carter’s casket will be transported to the Maranatha Baptist Church in Plains, Georgia, where he worshipped and taught Sunday school for 38 years.
Following the service, Carter will be buried at his home and garden in Plains, next to his wife of 77 years, Rosalynn Carter, together again — by a willow tree.
