St. John’s basketball continues to make history in this 2024-25 season under head coach Rick Pitino.
Guard RJ Luis Jr. and forward Zuby Ejiofor were just named to the All-Big East First Team — marking the first time since 1986 that two Red Storm players were honored with the distinction in the same season.
The last time St. John’s had multiple players who made it to the Big East’s big list, it was none other than future New York Knicks point guard Mark Jackson and Walter Berry, who would also make it to the NBA.
The recognition of St. John’s top talent adds to a historic season in which the team achieved its highest national ranking since 1991 and secured its first outright Big East title in 40 years.
St. John’s Stars Luis Jr. and Ejiofor Shine in Standout Season
Luis Jr., a junior from Miami, was a unanimous selection. This season, he averaged 18.1 points on 44.6% shooting, along with 7.1 rebounds, and 1.4 steals per game.
Ejiofor has elevated his play since becoming a starter this season, averaging 14.1 points and 8.2 rebounds.
Kadary Richmond made it to the All-Big East Second Team — in part due to his exceptional ball distribution and elite defense. His defense forced a steal in Sunday’s game against Creighton that set up Ejiofor’s buzzer-beater, game-winning shot.
Richmond has averaged 14.0 points, 6.6 rebounds, 5.4 assists, and 2.6 steals in his final year of eligibility. He is a well-rounded player with one major weakness: his shooting. As Pitino has said, Richmond is just a jump shot away from an NBA career.
