St. John’s continues its storied season with its first Big East Tournament game of the year against Butler.
The top-seeded Red Storm are the clear favorites over the Bulldogs, having won both matchups this season. But neither victory was a blowout — St. John’s won by an average margin of seven points.
That trend has been characteristic of their season, as they’ve often started games trailing but managed to pull out wins through sheer grit — and plenty of yelling from head coach Rick Pitino.
RJ Luis Jr. led the Johnnies in scoring in both wins against Butler this year, averaging 22 points per game. Expect him, along with Zuby Ejiofor, to make a big impact today.
This afternoon’s game will be played at Madison Square Garden, effectively a home court for the Red Storm. Expect a strong showing from alumni, eager to see this revived New York collegiate basketball program shine on this big stage — with hopes that they advance to the Big Dance later this month.
