Defending national champions Connecticut takes on Creighton tonight at Madison Square Garden in the Big East Tournament semifinals. Both teams are vying for a shot at facing St. John’s in Saturday night’s final at the World’s Greatest Arena.
The Huskies are coming off a dominant win over Villanova, coming back from a five-point deficit at halftime to not only take the lead in the second half, but also blow it open.
UConn’s comeback last night was powered by 19 bench points and 34 points in the paint. They held Villanova’s Eric Dixon, the top scorer in the country, to just eight points. Alex Karaban led the way with 18 points in last night’s Connecticut win over Villanova.
It’s been an off year for the defending national champion Huskies, but this is a Dan Hurley team. Don’t count them out.
Creighton, meanwhile, is coming off a double-overtime win against DePaul, led by Ryan Kalkbrenner’s 32-point performance.
The season series between these teams is split. Creighton won their first meeting on January 18, 68-63, while UConn took the rematch on February 11, 70-66.
Jamiya Neal led Creighton with 24 points in their first matchup.
Liam McNeeley, a potential top-15 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, had a monster game in the second meeting, dropping 38 points and 10 rebounds — scoring more than half of UConn’s points.
