The SEC Tournament Final is here, and neither of the last two teams standing are Alabama or Auburn. Instead, it’s Florida and Tennessee battling for the conference crown this afternoon.
Based on their season series, this game is tough to predict. That’s in part because this is a battle between one of the NCAA’s best offenses (Florida) vs. one of its best defenses (Florida).
Florida is third in the country in scoring, averaging 85.4 per game. Meanwhile, Tennessee has held opponents to just 62.3 points per game this season.
Season Series
Florida dominated the first matchup on January 7, crushing Tennessee 73-43. But Tennessee flipped the script in their February 1 rematch with a decisive 64-44 victory.
Senior Alijah Martin was a key factor in Florida’s January 7 win, scoring 18 points, while Alex Condon recorded a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds. But the Gators have a plethora of scoring options, including Walter Clayton Jr., who came up big in yesterday’s win over Alabama.
In Tennessee’s February 1 victory, Chaz Lanier and Jordan Gainey led the way, scoring 19 and 16 points, respectively. But it was senior Zakai Zeigler who led in scoring yesterday with 20 points against Auburn.
Florida is chasing its first SEC Tournament title since 2014 and fifth overall, while Tennessee is seeking its first since 2022 and sixth overall.
