The St. John’s Red Storm play their first NCAA Tournament game since 2019 on Thursday night against Omaha — this time as a No. 2 seed in the field of 64.
Though placed in the West region, the Johnnies’ first March Madness game will be played much closer to home, in Providence, Rhode Island, giving New Yorkers an early chance to witness the team’s potentially historic run.
If St. John’s beats Omaha, they will advance to the second round, which will also be held in Providence on Saturday.
From there, the West Regional moves to the Chase Center in San Francisco, where the Johnnies — if they win in the second round — would compete in the Sweet 16 and potentially the Elite Eight.
Tickets for St. John’s Thursday night game and the potential Saturday session are still available in the resale market.
How to Get There
Providence is about a three-hour car or Acela train ride from New York City.
For those who prefer to fly, United operates nonstop flights from Newark, and the game’s venue, Amica Mutual Pavilion, is just a 15-minute ride from Providence’s TF Green International Airport.
