(6) Ole Miss takes on (11) North Carolina in a first-round March Madness matchup that could go either way.
The Tar Heels come in with something to prove. Their inclusion in the field of 68 drew plenty of criticism, with some arguing they didn’t deserve a spot. But North Carolina answered with a resounding 27-point statement win over San Diego State on Tuesday — and they’ll look to silence the doubters again with a win over Ole Miss.
The Rebels, however, have been forged in the fire of an intense SEC schedule, finishing sixth in what many consider the NCAA’s most competitive conference. Ole Miss has a diverse offensive arsenal, with six players averaging double figures in scoring.
North Carolina will be led by senior RJ Davis, who dropped 26 points in the win over SDSU while shooting a scorching 80% from beyond the arc.
Keep an eye on freshman Ian Jackson — a projected 2025 NBA Draft pick. Jackson, who is fasting for Ramadan, looked hungry for action on Tuesday, showing off his athleticism and slick ball-handling with a highlight-reel ankle breaker.
The winner of this game plays Iowa State on Sunday.
