Sunday’s Round of 32 action begins with a heavyweight clash: (1) Florida, one of this year’s favorites to win it all, takes on (8) Connecticut — the defending champions and winners of the last two NCAA Tournaments.
The big question this afternoon is whether the Huskies have enough left in the tank to deliver the tournament’s first top-seed upset.
It’s been an up-and-down year for UConn, and a three-peat seems increasingly unlikely. Beating Oklahoma on Friday was one thing — taking down an SEC powerhouse like Florida is a much taller task.
Solo Ball and Alex Karaban led the way in the Huskies’ win over the Sooners, scoring 14 and 13 points, respectively. Terris Reed Jr. also chipped in 12 points off the bench.
But freshman Liam McNeely, a projected 2025 NBA Draft first-round pick, struggled with 2-for-13 shooting. Hassan Diarra also had an off night, going 1-for-6 from the field.
If UConn hopes to pull off the upset and keep its title defense alive, it’ll need to run on all cylinders. The odds are that UConn puts up a good fight, but goes down to the Gators.
