The Oklahoma City Thunder host the Denver Nuggets tonight in Game 2 of their Western Conference Semifinals series, aiming to even the series after a heartbreaking loss in Game 1.
The Thunder led for most of Game 1, but the Nuggets clawed back, edging the Thunder 121–119, with Aaron Gordon hitting a game-winning three-pointer with 2.8 seconds remaining.
Nikola Jokić had a monster performance, leading Denver with 42 points and 22 rebounds, becoming just the fourth player in NBA playoff history to record at least 40 points, 20 rebounds, and five assists in a game.
The Thunder, led by MVP finalist Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s 33 points, had a 113–102 lead with 4:31 remaining but were unable to close out the game. Chet Holmgren’s missed free throws and Jokić’s clutch performance contributed to the Nuggets’ comeback.
Oklahoma City had one of the best regular seasons in NBA history, finishing with an .829 winning percentage. But the playoffs are an entirely different beast.
The Nuggets’ leaders — Jokic and Jamal Murray — have gone through the grind, winning a ring together.
The Thunder will have to maintain their composure in the closing minutes and capitalize on their youthful energy and depth. Expect them to bounce back tonight and win.
Series Prediction: Oklahoma City in seven.
