The NBA Finals continue tonight in Indianapolis as the Oklahoma City Thunder and Indiana Pacers face off in Game 4, with the Pacers up two games to one.
A win would put the Pacers within a game of their first NBA title in franchise history.
Indiana is coming off another shock victory over Oklahoma City, defying the expectations of pretty much everyone. But both teams have an established pattern of responding to losses throughout these playoffs with wins. Expect that pattern to continue tonight with a Thunder victory at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.
Thunder head coach Mark Daigneault could go deeper into his bench, playing Aaron Wiggins and others more tonight. The Pacers will look for another standout performance from Benedict Mathurin, who led the way with 27 on Wednesday.
But unlike OKC, almost any of the top seven players on its depth chart can lead the team in scoring on a given night. The Thunder are deep, but more top-heavy than the Pacers, dependent on Shai Gilgeous-Alexander to put up 30-point-plus nights in these playoffs. He was fatigued and frustrated by Indiana’s stifling defense in Game 3. The supporting cast will have to step up and share more of the burden.
Expect a bounce-back performance tonight not just from SGA, but also from the Thunder bench.
OKC is likely to come out on top tonight. But this series is far from over. It’ll probably go the distance.
Game Prediction: Thunder by six.
Series Prediction: Thunder in seven.
