Day 2 of Wimbledon 2025 brings another stacked slate of action featuring several of the tournament’s top contenders.
Novak Djokovic, Jannik Sinner, Coco Gauff, and Ben Shelton all take the court Tuesday, while several matches — including Taylor Fritz’s first-rounder — will resume after being suspended Monday night due to Wimbledon’s 11:00 PM local time curfew.
Here’s a recap of what happened Monday and a complete guide to Tuesday’s biggest matches.
Monday Recap: Alcaraz Survives, Top Seeds Fall, Play Stopped by Curfew
Carlos Alcaraz outlasted the 38-year-old Fabio Fognini in a tense five-setter to begin his title defense. But many top seeds weren’t as lucky: Daniil Medvedev, and Holger Rune fell in major first-round upsets.
On the women’s side, Aryna Sabalenka, Emma Raducanu, and Katie Boulter advanced in straight sets. Madison Keys, Naomi Osaka, Jasmine Paolini, and Elina Svitolina also successfully completed their matches before the night ended.
Only a couple of contests were suspended due to the 11:00 PM curfew, most notably:
- Taylor Fritz (5) vs Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard, paused deep in the third set.
- Alexander Zverev (4) vs Arthur Rinderknech, still in progress and resuming Tuesday.
Notably, Mpteshi Perricard set a Wimbledon record with a 153-mph serve.
