The 2025 MLB Home Run Derby blasts off Monday night at Truist Park in Atlanta.
If you plan on attending, but haven’t yet bought tickets, there’s one part of the park that could give you the best shot at catching a souvenir: right field.
With a stacked field of sluggers and shorter dimensions in right-center, left-handed power will be on full display.
That’s where fans should keep their eyes (and gloves) ready.
Why Right Field Matters
Seattle Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh, the current MLB home run leader with 38 bombs, is a switch-hitter. But he’s expected to take most of his swings from the left side on Monday night.
That’s no accident. Truist Park is far more favorable to lefties, especially in right-center and right field.
Raleigh isn’t the only lefty in the bracket. In total, five of the eight competitors are expected to bat left-handed:
Cal Raleigh (Seattle Mariners) – switch-hitter, likely hitting lefty
Oneil Cruz (Pittsburgh Pirates) – left
James Wood (Washington Nationals) – left
Jazz Chisholm Jr. (New York Yankees) – left
Matt Olson (Atlanta Braves) – left
That means right field will be the hottest target zone of the night. And those seats are nearly sold out.
The lineup for Monday also includes five sluggers hitting on the right side of the plate:
Byron Buxton (Minnesota Twins) – right
Junior Caminero (Tampa Bay Rays) – right
Brent Rooker (Oakland Athletics) – right
So left field will certainly get a lot of love on Monday night. But if your goal is to catch a home run, your odds are better in right field.
Aaron Judge, currently second in MLB with 35 home runs, isn’t competing in the Derby — a right-handed power threat whose presence could’ve shifted the dynamics. He will, however, take part in the All-Star Game on Tuesday night, after being voted in as a starter.
