The Las Vegas Aces are on the road tonight to face the Golden State Valkyries at Chase Center in San Francisco to close out their regular-season series. The Aces currently lead the series 2–1.
The two teams arrive nearly even in the standings, with Las Vegas at 15–14 and Golden State at 14–14. If the season ended today, they would grab the final two playoff spots, finishing just ahead of the 13-15 Los Angeles Sparks and 13-16 Washington Mystics. So tonight’s clash is very much about maintaining the edge to keep them in contention for the postseason.
Two of their three previous meetings have been blowouts, with both trading spots as the victor.
In their most recent clash, Las Vegas bounced back from a league-record loss to the league-leading Minnesota Lynx by blowing out the Valkyries 101–77 at home.
Balance and bench scoring carried them through in that game, with Jewell Loyd posting 27 points off the bench. She’s thrived in a sixth-woman role.
All Eyes on A’ja
But A’ja Wilson remains of the Aces’ offense. She’s second in the league in scoring behind the injured Napheesa Collier, putting up 21.3 points per game. Wilson is having yet another MVP-caliber season. Along with her scoring proficiency, she is second in the league in rebounds (9.2 per game), fourth in steals (1.7 per game), and the league leader in blocks, at 2.3 per game.
As for Golden State, they’ve struggled without Kayla Thornton and Cecilia Zandalasini, but home-court energy and improvement at the free-throw line have fueled recent wins.
This matchup likely hinges on Wilson’s dominance inside versus Golden State’s efforts to contain her and generate secondary scoring.
If the Valkyries can stay competitive from beyond the arc and control pace, they have a path. But Las Vegas remains deeper and more physically imposing. Expect them to come out with a win tonight.
Prediction: Las Vegas Aces 88, Golden State Valkyries 81
