Emma Raducanu hopes to continue her resurgent run this afternoon against Olga Danilovic in the Cincinnati Open second round.
The former U.S. Open champ has revamped her team amid the late summer hard-court season, bringing on former Rafael Nadal coach Francis Roig.
Raducanu, ranked just inside the top 40 and seeded 30 in the tournament, she’s had a mixed run this season, but with much to be encouraged about. She made the Miami Open quarterfinals after defeating Emma Navarro and Amanda Anisimova, before falling to Jessica Pegula.
She fell in the Wimbledon third round to Aryna Sabalenka in a tough two-set battle. And she beat the also resurging Naomi Osaka in the DC Open before losing to Anna Kalinskaya in the semis.
Clearly, Raducanu wants to close this summer with a deep run, if not a big win, both in Cincy and in Flushing.
Her opponent this afternoon, Danilovic, currently ranked No. 43, arrives in Cincinnati with strong recent form. She lifted the WTA‑125 title in Antalya and reached the final at Rouen earlier this season. Her run at Roland Garros included defeats of Danielle Collins and Leylah Fernandez, before falling to Sabalenka in the third round.
A versatile left‑hander with titles on both clay and hard courts, she’s looking to build momentum on her favored hard surface.
Danilovic–Raducanu Head-to-Head
This is the first career meeting between Danilovic and Raducanu.
Prediction
Raducanu in 2 straight sets. Her experience at the ATP/WTA 1000 level and recent coaching upgrade give her the edge over a skilled but less consistent Danilovic.
