The Los Angeles Dodgers look to complete the sweep of the Colorado Rockies tonight at Chavez Ravine.
The Dodgers have won three straight, including the first two games of this series, after dropping five consecutive games to the Pittsburgh Pirates and Baltimore Orioles.
This soft stretch of the schedule should have been a chance for Los Angeles to widen its NL West lead, but instead, they remain just two games ahead of the surging San Diego Padres.
The rotation has been steady despite the slump. Dodgers starters have taken no-hit bids deep in games and have limited the Rockies to only three runs in the series.
Tonight, Blake Snell takes the mound with a chance to keep Colorado in check. Snell, however, hasn’t been sharp recently. He gave up five runs and nine hits in five innings against the Pirates in his last outing, with velocity still sitting below his season norm.
That could be a concern not only tonight but heading into September and the postseason. Snell attributed the drop to being away from baseball due to the birth of his second child, but tonight’s start may give indication as to whether there’s something else going on.
If Snell struggles, the Dodgers’ bats will need to carry the load. They’ll have a favorable matchup against Rockies starter Kyle Freeland, who is 4–14 with a 5.10 ERA. Freeland has been hit hard most of the season, though he turned in a rare gem his last time out, spinning eight scoreless innings against the Padres.
Predictions
Expect Snell to do just enough, while the Dodgers lineup grinds out timely hits against Freeland to finish off the sweep.
Prediction: Dodgers 4, Rockies 3
