For some teams, the NFL’s Week 18 is a battle for the final playoff spots. And for others, it’s a race to the bottom. Sunday’s early afternoon games are in the books and the “tankathon” is nearly over with the first five 2025 NFL Draft picks set.
The Tennessee Titans have secured the first overall pick. The Cleveland Browns have the second pick. And the New York Giants, who fell to the Philadelphia Eagles earlier today, will pick third.
The New England Patriots beat the Buffalo Bills earlier today to fall to fourth in the draft.
Battle for Sanders, Ward, and Hunter
All top three teams are in need of a quarterback and have to choose between the draft’s two premier prospects: Cam Ward of Miami and Shedeur Sanders of Colorado.
Colorado’s Travis Hunter, an elite two-way player, is also expected to be a top-three pick.
The Browns could deal their number two pick, but if Sanders and Ward are gone by the time the Giants are on the clock, they could select Hunter and look for a veteran quarterback, at least as a stopgap option.
The Patriots already have a quarterback in their 2024 pick Drake Maye. But having fallen to fourth, Hunter may be out of reach. But they may still have an opportunity to grab Penn State’s Abdul Carter, arguably the draft’s top defensive player.
