Whenever the Buffalo Bills play in the winter, the looming question is whether snow will be in the forecast. The Bills take on the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday night at Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park — an open-air venue that does little to shield fans and players from the elements.
Buffalo, which sits along Lake Erie, is known for receiving massive amounts of snow — measured in feet, not inches — due to what’s called lake effect snow.
Cold air, typically from Canada, passes over Lake Erie, absorbing its heat and moisture, and the growing clouds then produce heavy bands of snow.
So when it snows in Buffalo, it can really snow.
Bills-Ravens Game Weather Forecast
Snow is on the menu for Sunday’s Bills-Ravens game, set to start just after 6:30 PM Eastern.
Fortunately, the forecast by local news channel WIVB 4 calls for just flurries or a dusting of snow at most. It’ll be cold at kickoff — around 17 degrees.
Wind is not expected to be a major factor, with speeds between 4 and 8 mph, but forecasts elsewhere anticipate higher wind gusts.
It’ll get much colder later on in the week, with a low of just 2 degrees forecast for Tuesday. Unsurprisingly, the New Highmark Stadium, scheduled to open in 2026, will feature heated concourse areas.
The Jackson-Henry Storm Is Coming
The Bills may have a snow-field advantage. They won the 2017 “Snow Bowl” against the Indianapolis Colts 13-7, playing in whiteout conditions as Buffalo was hit with more than a foot of snow.
While the Bills may not have to worry about snow, they will need to figure out how to avoid a Ravens offensive avalanche led by quarterback Lamar Jackson and running back Derrick Henry.
In their only previous meeting this season, the Ravens crushed the Bills 35-10 in their Week 4 matchup. Henry rushed for 199 yards — and Jackson added 54 of his own.
