The 2024 College Football Playoff quarterfinals kick off tonight as No. 6 Penn State takes on No. 3 Boise State in the Fiesta Bowl.
The winner of tonight’s game moves on to face Georgia or Notre Dame in the Orange Bowl on January 9.
Key Matchup: Ashton Jeanty vs. Abdul Carter
The Fiesta Bowl may ultimately come down to two players: Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty and Penn State defensive end Abdul Carter.
Jeanty, the Heisman Trophy runner-up, is the leading rusher in all of college football by far this season. With 2,497 yards, he’s just 132 shy of the single-season record held by NFL legend Barry Sanders.
Penn State, however, brings a formidable defense, led by Carter. Ranked eighth in the country in rushing defense, Penn State has limited its opponents to just 58 yards per game in 2024.
Carter and Jeanty are widely expected to be selected in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft.
