Apple released its Friday Night Baseball broadcast schedule for the 2025 Major League Baseball season today, and for New York Mets fans, there’s some bad news.
If you want to watch Juan Soto’s second regular-season game in a Mets uniform, you’ll need an Apple TV+ subscription — because the game won’t be on cable.
Apple TV+’s 2025 Friday Night Baseball schedule kicks off on March 28 with two games. The Baltimore Orioles vs. Toronto Blue Jays, which starts at 7:00 PM Eastern, followed by the New York Mets at the Houston Astros at 8:00 PM Eastern.
That second matchup will undoubtedly attract national interest, but in New York, all eyes will be on Soto, the Mets’ blockbuster offseason acquisition.
Mets fans have been eagerly waiting all winter to see Soto play in blue and orange, and this game marks his first Friday night appearance for the team since leaving the New York Yankees last year.
The Yankees are off that night — meaning many fans of the Bronx Bombers would have been tuning in just to hate-watch.
Apple TV+ Exclusive Means No Local Broadcast for Mets vs. Astros
But Mets and Yankees fans will find themselves in the same predicament on the upcoming Friday night: they won’t be able to watch the game without Apple TV+.
Unlike Yankees or NFL games on Amazon, which simulcast on local channels in the home teams’ markets, MLB’s exclusive arrangement with Apple TV+ means these games do not appear on regional sports networks or local TV stations.
Mets games are typically available on SNY, PIX11, or FOX/ESPN for national broadcasts. But Apple’s Friday Night Baseball games are locked behind a hard paywall.
Apple has also lined up a few other exclusive matchups that will unite Mets and Yankees fans in frustration — when both teams will face off against baseball’s new evil empire, the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Apple TV+ has exclusive broadcasting rights to the May 23 Dodgers-Mets game and the May 30 Yankees-Dodgers game.
