Former President Donald Trump has won the U.S. presidential election, defeating Vice President Kamala Harris.
Trump makes history in several ways. He is the oldest person and the first convict to win the presidential election. He is also the second U.S. president to win two non-consecutive terms after Grover Cleveland.
Trump crossed the 270 electoral vote threshold with victories in battleground states Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. He presently leads Harris with 277 electoral votes and is ahead in three other key battleground states: Arizona, Michigan, and Nevada. He could not only cross 300 electoral votes, but also win the popular vote.
It is a resounding victory for the former president, built in part on gains with blacks and Hispanics, as well as Arab and Muslim American voters.
Vice President Harris chose not to address the public tonight. Her campaign co-chair, Cedric Richmond, addressed a thinning audience just after 12:40 AM on Wednesday and said, “We still have votes to count.”
