Amazon wants to be the go-to destination for everything — from shopping for clothing, electronics, and groceries to streaming your favorite movies and live NFL games.
And now, Amazon wants to be the place where you buy your next car. You can complete the entire car buying process online on Amazon — except, ironically, the delivery.
Introducing Amazon Autos
Earlier this year, the e-commerce giant launched Amazon Autos: a one-stop shop where you can browse, customize, and purchase vehicles online.
The program is currently in beta mode and available only in select metro areas. At launch, Amazon Autos partnered exclusively with Hyundai. So if you’re in the market for another brand, Amazon Autos isn’t the place for you — at least for now.

But more brands may be on the way. Amazon Autos currently features a virtual “vehicle showroom” for BMW, but purchasing one of its luxury vehicles through Amazon isn’t possible — yet.
Here’s How You Buy a Car on Amazon
Ready to explore Amazon Autos? Here’s how the process works:
Step 1. Choose Your Model and Features
After heading over to the Amazon Autos site here, you can shop available cars at Hyundai dealers near you — and that seems to be what Amazon is directing customers toward.
You can select from Hyundai’s full range of models, including the Tucson and Palisade SUVs, the Elantra and Sonata sedans, the versatile Santa Cruz pickup, and the all-electric IONIQ 5 and IONIQ 6.

There’s also the option of customizing your own vehicle — similar to what you’d do on the Hyundai website. But it’s obscured on the Amazon Autos site and customization options are largely limited to vehicle trim, and exterior and interior color.
Step 2. Choose Your Method of Payment
Now, once you’ve selected your vehicle, Amazon will ask how you’d like to pay —whether financing or paying in full. The site provides transparent pricing, itemizing dealer fees and estimated government taxes, and presents to you your grand total.
You can also check your eligibility for Hyundai’s First Responders and U.S. Military Coupon programs, which offer $500 discounts. Additional warranty and maintenance programs can be added before finalizing your purchase.
The platform’s clear pricing structure is one of the major advantages of buying a car through Amazon.
Step 3. Get Trade-In Value Estimate (Optional)
If you want to trade in your current vehicle, enter your VIN, mileage, and home ZIP code.
Next, complete a simple five-step process to describe your vehicle. Amazon will provide an instant trade-in offer valid for seven days. The company partners with certified dealers and appraisal services to ensure accurate market-based valuations.
If needed, a dealership may request an in-person inspection to verify your trade-in’s condition. Amazon will coordinate the details.
When you go to pick up your new Hyundai, bring your trade-in vehicle. The dealership will perform a final check, complete the paperwork, and apply the trade-in value to your new purchase.
Step 4. Financing Options
You can estimate monthly payments based on your credit score and loan terms before proceeding.
Hyundai Motor Finance may offer up to $2,000 rebates, which can help offset some financing costs. While interest rates may vary, Amazon provides an upfront look at financing terms. You can take your time to read the fine print — unlike at the dealership.
Upload the necessary documents, schedule your pick-up, and sign the contracts.
Step 5: Pick Up Your Car
Once you submit your paperwork, it can be processed within just a few hours.
When that’s set, head to the dealership on your scheduled pick-up date to drive your shiny, new car.
If you’re trading in a vehicle, bring it along for the final handover.
Who Is Amazon Autos Good For?
Convenience and transparency are the biggest selling points of Amazon Autos. There’s no dealer haggling or risk of bait-and-switch tactics — just straightforward pricing and a streamlined process.
However, if you thrive on negotiating with salespeople to get the absolute lowest price, Amazon Autos might not be your best option.
The platform is particularly appealing to those who value a stress-free buying experience. Some shoppers — especially single women and first-time buyers — may find it a more comfortable alternative to traditional dealerships.
Now, you don’t have to be an Amazon Prime member to use the service, but if you are, you’ll be eligible for $2,300 in Amazon.com gift cards if you buy a car through Amazon Autos.
Think of it as a rebate — but designed to bring you back to Amazon for future purchases. This can be especially valuable for families or frequent Amazon shoppers.
Amazon Autos vs. Costco Auto Program
Amazon Autos shares similarities with the Costco Auto Program — both partner with dealerships to offer discounted vehicle prices.
However, there’s a key difference:
- Costco’s Auto Program acts primarily as a referral service, connecting you with dealers. Though it does offer exclusive discounts — including a current $1,000 markdown on Cadillacs.
- Amazon Autos lets you handle nearly the entire process online — from selecting your car to arranging financing and trade-ins — before heading to the dealership for the final pick-up.
Both programs require in-person vehicle pick-up, but Amazon’s approach streamlines the process, saving time and reducing stress.
