Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner face off Sunday in a Wimbledon Centre Court men’s final destined to be one for the ages.
The two young men are in a league of their own. And they’re only getting better.
As the sun sets on Novak Djokovic, the last of the Big Three of men’s tennis, the Alcaraz–Sinner tandem rises. The new era is now.
Last month’s French Open final between Alcaraz and Sinner was the longest in Roland Garros history — and the second-longest Grand Slam match ever. It lasted over five and a half hours and left fans breathless.
Today’s final may or may not run quite as long, but it promises a battle with just as much firepower, finesse, and drama. Expect every point to be hard-fought.
Sinner enters his first Wimbledon final with the calm authority of a world No. 1. Yet he has looked vulnerable this tournament. He was on the verge of elimination in the fourth round against Grigor Dimitrov, down two sets to none, when the 34-year-old had to bow out due to injury.
Sinner then powered past Ben Shelton in the quarterfinals and then trounced a banged-up Djokovic in straight sets to reach Sunday’s final. His opponent today faces no such limitations.
Alcaraz, meanwhile, is chasing a rare three-peat — his third straight Wimbledon crown at just 22 years old. With three Wimbledon titles, he’d tie Boris Becker and John McEnroe, though he still has a long ways to go to catch up to Roger Federer, Pete Sampras, and Djokovic.
He’s shown grit and grass-court genius to reach this point again, including a dominant semifinal win over Taylor Fritz.
Head-to-Head
Alcaraz leads their career series 8–4, including wins in both the French Open and Madrid finals earlier this year. The Spaniard has won their last five meetings.
Sinner won their lone meeting on grass — at Wimbledon, way back in 2022. His last victory against Alcaraz came in Beijing in 2023.
What to Watch
Baseline warfare: Both players are fearless from the back of the court. Sinner will look to control with depth and precision; Alcaraz will use variety and creativity to disrupt his rhythm.
Physical edge: Both are in peak form, but this is Sinner’s deepest run at Wimbledon. Alcaraz, by contrast, knows what it takes to lift the trophy here.
Big moments: Neither shies away from the spotlight. This will come down to who executes better in the tensest moments — particularly in tiebreaks and on second serves.
Prediction
Alcaraz in five sets. Their last four meetings at Grand Slams have gone the distance. This will be a battle. But the momentum is with Alcaraz, who has owned the court at Wimbledon. The phenom will get his three-peat.
