The Seattle Mariners look to extend their four-game winning streak and complete the series sweep tonight against the St. Louis Cardinals at T-Mobile Park.
Seattle enters the night just one game behind the Houston Astros in the AL West after Houston dropped two straight. They also hold just a two-game cushion over the Texas Rangers in the loss column for the third Wild Card spot.
That means every game down the stretch counts double — tightening their grip on a postseason berth while also keeping alive a chance at the divisional crown. The stakes get even higher with a three-game series against Houston looming in the final two weeks.
The Mariners’ bullpen has been the unsung hero of this run. While the offense exploded for 28 runs in the first two games of the streak, the relievers haven’t allowed a single earned run across the four games. If they can keep pitching like that, Seattle becomes more than just a playoff contender — they become a threat to make a deep run.
Logan Gilbert takes the ball for Seattle. The right-hander is 4–6 with a 3.61 ERA and, aside from one rough outing against the Philadelphia Phillies in August, has been steady.
He’s averaging more than seven strikeouts per game and is coming off a strong start against the Atlanta Braves, where he allowed just one run over six innings with seven punchouts.
For the Cardinals, Michael McGreevy gets the nod. He’s 6–3 with a 4.68 ERA and showed flashes of promise in August, going 4–0 with a 3.50 ERA. But he was roughed up in his last start against the red-hot San Francisco Giants, giving up six runs and nine hits, including two homers, in just four innings.
Facing a just-as-hot Mariners lineup, McGreevy will need to rebound quickly to keep St. Louis in the game.
Predictions
Seattle is rolling right now, and with Gilbert in form and the bullpen shutting the door, the edge stays with the Mariners. McGreevy has shown progress but is coming off a tough outing, and Seattle’s bats are likely to put pressure on him early.
Prediction: Mariners 5, Cardinals 3
