The Indiana Fever (22–20) visit the Washington Mystics (16–26) this afternoon at CFG Bank Arena in Baltimore.
For Indiana, the stakes are clear: they can clinch a playoff berth with a win or a Los Angeles Sparks loss. But the moment is bittersweet, as they’ll have to do it without superstar Caitlin Clark, who was ruled out for the season. While a postseason appearance is highly likely, the Fever’s chances of making a deep run have taken a major hit with mounting injuries.
Still, Indiana can be competitive. Kelsey Mitchell leads the way with 20.5 points and 3.5 assists per game, and she’s stepped up in Clark’s absence, scoring 34 points or more twice in August. Aliyah Boston adds 15.1 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game. Yet the roster is stretched thin, with five players currently sidelined, including Clark.
For Washington, the season has long been over in terms of playoff hopes. The Mystics have dropped eight straight but are looking to build for the future with a young core led by rookies Sonia Citron and Kiki Iriafen.
They’ll also be boosted next year by the return of Georgia Amoore, a first-round pick who missed this season with an ACL injury. With three first-round picks in 2026, Washington is clearly focused on the long game.
Both teams know their upside lies in the future. Clark will be back for Indiana next year, while the Mystics continue to rebuild with youth and draft capital.
That was the plan all along for the Mystics, which dealt top talent for these picks. But for the Fever, they’re simply dealing with the cards they’ve been dealt.
Prediction
Indiana’s urgency and superior depth should carry them past the Mystics. Expect the Fever to punch their playoff ticket with a road win.
Prediction: Indiana Fever 88, Washington Mystics 75
