The Indiana Fever are on the road, taking on the Connecticut Sun this afternoon in Uncasville in a Sunday matinee.
The Fever may feel fortunate to be facing the WNBA’s worst team. The Sun are just 6–26 on the season, with a woeful .188 winning percentage.
But Indiana is in the worst stretch of its season, with its playoff hopes now on the line. They’re now just two games above .500.
Fever Now Ailing Without Caitlin Clark
Superstar Caitlin Clark will miss her 13th straight game today. While Indiana initially held up without her, the team has since slipped into a freefall.
The loss of Aari McDonald to a season-ending injury is a big part of that. She filled in for Clark and held up the fort with Kelsey Mitchell and Aliyah Boston.
The Fever themselves have lost four of their last five games and two in a row to teams at the bottom of the league. They fell by one point to the Dallas Wings and by four to the Washington Mystics.
Indiana now finds itself in seventh place in the standings as the Las Vegas Aces surge with six straight wins and the Golden State Valkyries ride a four-game streak.
The Fever hold a 2-1 edge in the season series against the Sun, but they can’t take anything for granted today, given their poor performance against the Mystics and Wings.
To close this one out, the Fever will need strong late-game execution and big performances from both Boston and Mitchell, as their lack of depth has shown in recent contests.
Fever-Sun Prediction
Expect another close one for the struggling Fever. But team leaders Boston and Mitchell will step it up in the late minutes to prevent another humiliation today.
Prediction: Indiana 83, Connecticut 79
