(1) Florida takes on (16) Norfolk State to kick off the evening session of Friday’s first-round March Madness games.
The Spartans enter the tournament as perhaps the biggest underdogs in the entire field, facing a Gators team that’s picked by many as a favorite to win it all.
Under head coach Robert Jones, Norfolk State has reached the NCAA Tournament in three of the past five years — only to exit in the first round each time. They’re a dominant force in the MEAC, but the SEC is a whole other ballgame. The only real question tonight is how large Florida’s winning margin will be.
Senior Walter Clayton Jr. has been a steady hand for the Gators all season, averaging 17.5 points and 4.3 assists per game. He’s elevated his play in recent weeks, averaging 21.4 points over the last five games during Florida’s SEC Tournament championship run. He won’t disappoint tonight, either.
