The New York Knicks and Detroit Pistons face off in a crucial Game 3 tonight at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit.
The series is tied 1-1, and the Pistons effectively have home-court advantage after winning Game 2 at Madison Square Garden.
The momentum is now on Detroit’s side. And not just because the next three games will be played at home.
The Pistons have little to lose — and they’ve had the Knicks’ number all year. Detroit won the season series and led deep into the fourth quarter in their Game 1 loss, before allowing New York to go on a 21-0 run.
On Monday night, the Pistons flipped the script, with their young core and veterans playing decisive roles.
Cade Cunningham rose to the moment, scoring 33 points and grabbing 12 rebounds in the win. Veteran Dennis Schroder stepped up with less than a minute left in the fourth with a 3-point shot from 25 feet out to break a 94-all tie, putting Detroit on top for good.
Jalen Brunson, named the NBA’s Clutch Player of the Year, unfortunately, was not clutch enough in Game 3. He put up 14 points in the fourth, but in the last minutes of play missed shots and made costly fouls.
Karl-Anthony Towns, ostensibly the second-best player on the Knicks, was AWOL in the fourth, playing all twelve minutes, but taking no shots and not even drawing a foul. In other words, he scored no points in the final quarter.
Expect the Pistons to win tonight and clinch the series in six.
Cade Cunningham Stats
Cunningham is averaging 27.0 points, 9.0 rebounds, and 7.5 assists in the current playoff series with the Knicks. He’s shooting 45.2% from he field and 25.0% from three.
