(5) Memphis takes on (12) Colorado State in what’s likely to be a closely contested first-round March Madness battle.
The Rams enter this afternoon’s game riding a 10-game winning streak, led by senior Nique Clifford, whose elevated play this season has him projected as a first-round pick in the 2025 NBA Draft.
Clifford is averaging 19 points per game this season on an efficient 50.7% shooting. He’s been even hotter during Colorado State’s winning streak, putting up 27.8 points per game over the last four contests and leading the Rams to the Mountain West Tournament title.
Memphis will be without guard Tyrese Hunter, sidelined with a foot injury. Sophomore Baraka Okojie will need to rise to the occasion, but the pressure will fall on leading scorer PJ Haggerty, who powered the Tigers through the American Athletic Conference Tournament — including a 42-point explosion against Wichita State, shocking the Shockers.
The winner will face the victor of this afternoon’s Maryland–Grand Canyon game.
