The Indiana Fever host the Washington Mystics tonight as they look to stop their fall in the standings.
Indiana is now in sixth place in the league, holding just a half-game lead over the surging Golden State Valkyries, who have won three straight coming into tonight.
The Fever initially thrived after Caitlin Clark was sidelined due to a groin injury, with Kelsey Mitchell and Aliyah Boston stepping up their scoring and Aari McDonald taking over at point.
A foot injury has put McDonald out for the season — and the Fever have struggled since. Still, they maintain offensive firepower, and Sophie Cunningham has stepped up at point guard.
Indiana has also added guards Kyra Lambert and Odyssey Sims in recent days to help fill the backcourt void until Clark returns — a question mark that continues to loom over the season.
Washington’s offense is less potent, led by rookie Sonia Citron, who averages 14.8 points per game and poses a major threat from three-point range.
The Mystics are a rebuilding team, with signs of potential. In their last outing, they erased an 18-point deficit entering the fourth quarter before falling by five to Golden State.
Five players — Kiki Iriafen, Citron, Sug Sutton, Jade Melbourne, and Emily Engstler — scored in double figures, with Iriafen recording her 10th double-double of the year.
Still, Indiana should have the edge tonight, even shorthanded. Expect the Fever to come out on top, with a single-digit win.
Prediction: Indiana Fever 94, Washington Mystics 86
