The Washington Mystics (16–27) visit the New York Liberty (25–17) tonight at Barclays Center in Brooklyn to close out the regular season.
For Washington, this year has been a forgettable one, ending with nine straight losses and a missed chance to grab the final playoff spot. Still, there’s reason for optimism.
Sonia Citron and Kiki Iriafen both turned in standout rookie campaigns, while 2025 draft pick Georgia Amoore will return from injury next season as a de facto “stash.” Add in three first-round picks in 2026, and the Mystics have a promising young core to build around.
The Liberty, meanwhile, have already locked up the No. 5 seed and will finish the season with back-to-back games against bottom-tier teams, including their finale on September 11 against the Chicago Sky. Sharp-shooter Sabrina Ionescu returns tonight, giving New York a healthy roster heading into the postseason.
With Ionescu, Jonquel Jones, and Breanna Stewart together on the court, the Liberty remain unbeaten this season. Overshadowed at times by the Minnesota Lynx, Atlanta Dream, and Las Vegas Aces, the defending champions enter the playoffs at full strength and eager to remind the league of their ceiling.
Prediction
The Liberty have won all three meetings with the Mystics this season, and tonight should be no different, especially with New York back at full strength. Expect a strong double-digit victory.
Prediction: New York Liberty 90, Washington Mystics 72
