The Minnesota Timberwolves host the Oklahoma City Thunder tonight at Target Center for Game 4 of the Western Conference Finals.
The Thunder lead the series 2–1, but Minnesota punched back in a big way with a 143–101 blowout in Game 3 — their most complete performance of the playoffs.
Game 3 marked the first time in this series that both Anthony Edwards and Julius Randle played at a high level. Edwards led with 30 points, 9 rebounds, and 6 assists, while Randle added 24 points. Both put up those numbers in just under 30 minutes.
Their synergy was the foundation of Minnesota’s late-season surge and has been key in the team’s success through the first two rounds of the playoffs. When both are locked in, the Timberwolves look like a championship-caliber team.
Their offensive explosion in Game 3 was backed by suffocating defense. Minnesota held MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander to just 14 points on 5-of-19 shooting — a postseason low. The Timberwolves forced 18 turnovers and got major bench production from Naz Reid and Nickeil Alexander-Walker.
For the Thunder, the key is resiliency. They’ve already shown that in these playoffs. It took seven games to eliminate the Denver Nuggets, and each time Denver managed a win, Oklahoma City responded with one of their own. This team doesn’t panic.
Gilgeous-Alexander will look to bounce back tonight. He averaged 34.5 points in the first two games of this series and has been the most consistent superstar in the West this postseason. With support from Jalen Williams, Chet Holmgren, and a high-energy second unit, the Thunder will aim to reclaim control and push Minnesota to the brink.
Expect a much tighter contest than Game 3. The Timberwolves will ride the energy of their home crowd and continue to lean on Edwards and Randle, but the Thunder’s ability to make adjustments and respond under pressure has been a defining trait.
Game Prediction: Thunder win by 5.
Series Prediction: Thunder in six.
