The Caitlin Clark-less Indiana Fever host the Dallas Wings tonight at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in the final game of their season series.
Indiana has shown resilience without Clark — including in their most recent meeting with Paige Bueckers and the Wings, an 88–78 Fever victory. A win tonight would give Indiana a season sweep, having taken the first three matchups. But their depth has been tested further with season-ending injuries to Aari McDonald and Sydney Colson.
McDonald had been a steady hand filling in for Clark at point guard, even delivering big scoring nights when needed — including a career-high 27 points against the Phoenix Mercury two weeks ago.
The Fever remain in the thick of the playoff race, tied for fifth with the surging Las Vegas Aces, who have won four straight. The Golden State Valkyries are closing in at seventh, just 1.5 games back.
The slumping Seattle Storm, losers of five straight, may give Indiana enough cushion until Clark’s potential return — if she plays again this season.
Dallas is also skidding, sitting near the bottom of the standings at 8–24 after dropping five straight. Bueckers is the lone bright spot, leading all rookies in the Rookie of the Year race with averages of 18.5 points, 5.3 assists, 4.0 rebounds, and 1.8 steals per game. But the Wings’ offense is otherwise flat, ranking in the league’s bottom five in scoring.
Even without Clark, the Fever have proven they can dominate. On Saturday, they routed the Chicago Sky 92–70 behind Kelsey Mitchell’s 26 points, with four Fever players scoring at least 15. The win underscored their depth and offensive rhythm despite injuries.
To help stabilize their depleted backcourt, the Fever have signed veteran guard Odyssey Sims to a hardship contract. Sims will provide experience and steady ball-handling alongside Mitchell, who now assumes full-time point guard duties.
Predictions
Expect 20-point-plus nights from Mitchell and Bueckers and a double-double from Aliyah Boston. Fever win by double-digits.
Prediction: Indiana Fever 89, Dallas Wings 77
