A sojourn across the Atlantic wasn’t enough to reverse the New York Giants’ fortunes. The Giants dropped their fifth straight game, losing 20-17 in overtime on Sunday to the Carolina Panthers in Munich, Germany. The Giants are now 2-8 and remain at the bottom of the NFC East.
Miserable in Munich
The Giants went into the half down 10-0, but rookie running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. put them back in the game with a 32-yard touchdown run in the 3rd quarter.
The Panthers extended their lead back to 10 with Chuba Hubbard running in from the one-yard line for a touchdown with 3:33 left in the 3rd.
Quarterback Daniel Jones failed to connect for a touchdown in the game, but brought the Giants back within three in the 4th, running it in from two yards out for a touchdown.
Kicker Graham Gano completed the Giants’ comeback with a 42-yard field goal to tie the game with just five seconds to play.
The Game Gets Out of Hand With a Fumble
The Giants reverted to their old selves in overtime. Tracy Jr., who rushed for 103 yards on 18 carries, fumbled the ball in the Giants’ first play in overtime.
Panthers kicker Eddy Piñeiro then sealed the Giants’ fate, connecting on a 36-yard walk-off field goal with 7:53 left in overtime.
Tracy Jr. was shown crying after Piñeiro’s kick went through the uprights. The Purdue grad learned a tough lesson on ball protection in Germany.
The Giants have a much-needed bye week in Week 11 and play the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 12.
Then, on Thanksgiving, they’ll face off against the struggling Dallas Cowboys. Odds are the Cowboys will eat their lunch too on Turkey Day.
